To form a positive attitude towards the way to spend weekends

Teaching procedure:
Step 1. Lead in --- Millie’s school life
After enjoying a video about Millie’ school life, students are required to:
a. answer the question “what is the video about”;
b. describe Millie’s school life with expressions learnt in this unit.
Step 2. Speak up: what do you like to do at weekends?
After talking about Millie’s school life, we move on to what Millie likes to do at weekends.
Task1. Students will listen to a dialogue between Millie and Tommy and be ready to answer some questions.
1. What does Millie like to do at weekends?
2. How often does Millie do it?
3. What does Tommy like to do with his parents at weekends?
4. How often does Tommy do it?
Pre-listening tips:
Read and be familiar with the questions, and circle the key words.
Task 2. Students are required to make a dialogue to talk about their own weekends. They may refer to the model given by the teacher, and they are encouraged to ask for and give more information.
Model: S1: What do you like to do at weekends, …?
S2: I like to…
S1: How often do you…?
S2: About…What about you, …?
S1: I like to…
(when, where, who)
S2: How often…?
S1: About…
S2: That’s great!

Don’t forget to do exercise to keep healthy. What exercise do you often do at weekends?
Step 3: Listening comprehension:
A. a volleyball match
After learning about Millie’s weekend activities, we move on to what she does on one of her weekends ---to take part in a volleyball match.
Introduce some words related to a volleyball match by showing pictures.
(team, court, player, coach, judge)
Millie also does exercise to keep healthy. What exercise do you think Millie will do?
Task 1. Students will listen to Millie and Simon talking about a volleyball match. After that they are required to answer some questions.
(Pre-listening tips
1. Read and be familiar with the questions, and circle the key words)
Question 1: What are the two teams of the match?
Question 2: When is the volleyball match?
Question 3: Where is the volleyball match?
Question 4: What time dose the volleyball match start?
Task 2. Students complete a notice written by Simon about the volleyball match. For those blanks that they have no answer, they should predict possible answers from the context first, and then confirm answers when listen again.

Step 4: Group discussion: how to spend a green weekend?
Move on to the topic by asking about students’ opinion about John’s weekend.

4. Take part in some social activities.
Step 5: Summary & homework
1. Finish exercises on the workbook;
2. Make a plan of your own green weekend.
