《Fun with English 8A Unit4 Reading》教学设计

Teaching goals:
1.To develop the ability to guess general meaning from context
2.To get to know the problems that the giant pandas are facing and then start to think of ways to protect the pandas
3.To get to know the importance of animal protecting
Teaching importance & difficult points:
1. Help the students to develop the ability to guess general meaning from context
2. Help the students to get to know the problems that the giant pandas are facing and then start to think of way to protect the pandas
3. Help the students to get to know the importance of animal protecting
Step1 Lead-in
1. Recall the wild animals learned in the last class.
Students name the wild animals they know.
2. Play a guessing game.
Ss read some sentences about different wild animals, and try to guess what wild animal it is.
Step2 Fast reading
Go through the story quickly and answer:
What’s the name of the giant panda?
What does it mean?
Step3 Detailed reading (paragraph1-3)
1. Look at some pictures of giant pandas and bamboos, bamboo shoots and bamboo leaves.
Students be familiar with some new words.
2. Read paragraph1-3 after the tape.
3. Finish blank fillings about Xi Wang’s weight and food at different times.
4. Ss circle the time expressions to have a general idea about XW’s growth.
5. Finish part C on Page 61.
6. Check the answers and Ss retell the growth of XW by connecting the sentences.
Step4 Detailed reading (paragraph4-6)
1. Ss look at some pictures of HUNTER, FARMER, FUR, FOREST, and think about the problems giant pandas may have.
2. Ss find out the problems mentioned in the text from paragraph4-6.
Pay attention to the sentence structure—‘if’ clause.
Read the sentences together.
3. What should we do to protect giant pandas?
Ss think of some actions.
4. Finish part D on Page62.
Check the answers and think about more actions.
Step5 Detailed reading (paragraph7-8)
Give subjects to the actions in the text.
Read the actions concluded on the screen.
Step6 Post-reading
Ss have a play show.
Ss divided into groups of three and try to make up a dialogue among three roles:
Play1. A giant panda 、a hunter and a worker
Play2. A giant panda 、a farmer and a worker
Play3 .A baby panda、a villager and a worker
Show up the dialogues.
Step7 Homework
Write a letter to newspapers or magazines about the giant pandas in China. Try our best to encourage more and more people to protect them.
